PROJECT ROOM
Werewolves Liam Benson
MOP Projects will host Werewolves, the debut solo exhibition by Sydney based photomedia and performance artist Liam Benson. At the opening on Thursday 2 November, Benson will present a new performance work devised especially for this exhibition.
In Werewolves, Liam Benson playfully merges the rampant satire of Michael Jackson with the iconic tale of Little Red Riding Hood to create a provocative photographic series. Displayed as a picture book, the visual narrative identifies with victims of abuse by drawing on the hype surrounding Michael Jackson's sex crime allegations. Benson’s work responds to the sensationalised media coverage and consequent legal injustices specific to such crimes. Benson's evocative work incorporates childhood storytelling and dress-ups as a means of understanding the way abuse can manifest itself during a victim’s maturity.
